School Bag Checklist-Posture, Headaches, Neck or Back Pain
Your childs new school back-pack may be contributing to early stages of neck and backpain if it is poorly designed or worn incorrectly.
Incorrectly carrying a school bag alters the S curve of the spine resulting in strain on the shoulders and neck. Children are regularly carrying bags far greater than the recommended 10% of body weight.
See the schoolbag checklist below(take a pic and show your kids)
- Use both shoulder straps evenly placed.
- Adjust shoulder straps so the top of the bag is at shoulder height.
- Waist straps firmly fitted on the spine and weight distributed evenly onto hips.
- Bag (including books & materials) to be maximum of 10% of child’s weight.
- Heavy items to be packed to the bottom of the bag close to the spine.
- Children to avoid unnecessary “book transport.” Encourage use of lockers and tote tray
Concerned about your childs’ posture, headaches , sore neck or back .. make an appointment to get them checked.
Free Kids backpack fitting on their appointment; or when accompanying Mum/Dad during their consultation.
