Tech Neck Is the endless scrolling on your device causing you neck pain? You might not know it, but the endless social media browsing, swiping and texting is having a huge impact on your overall neck health. ‘Tech Neck’ is now becoming a common health issue.
Tech neck refers to the neck pain and posture damage that consistent looking down at devices for extended periods of time places on your neck. You may not realise it, but staring down hunched over your phone, can put immense amounts of pressure and strain on your neck and spine. On average, Australians spend 5.5 hours on their phone each day.
Technology is here to stay, but that doesn’t mean tech neck has to. Changing a few habits can make a huge improvement to the stress placed on your neck. For instance, changing the way you hold your phone, so the screen is at eye level, means you are less likely to be slouched in a forward-head position. If your habits are causing pain, then Consider a Chiro! (Spinal Health Week 23-29 May 2022)
Your childs new school back-pack may be contributing to early stages of neck and backpain if it is poorly designed or worn incorrectly.
Incorrectly carrying a school bag alters the S curve of the spine resulting in strain on the shoulders and neck. Children are regularly carrying bags far greater than the recommended 10% of body weight.
See the schoolbag checklist below(take a pic and show your kids)
Use both shoulder straps evenly placed.
Adjust shoulder straps so the top of the bag is at shoulder height.
Waist straps firmly fitted on the spine and weight distributed evenly onto hips.
Bag (including books & materials) to be maximum of 10% of child’s weight.
Heavy items to be packed to the bottom of the bag close to the spine.
Children to avoid unnecessary “book transport.” Encourage use of lockers and tote tray
Concerned about your childs’ posture, headaches , sore neck or back .. make an appointment to get them checked. Click here

Posture is the position in which we hold our bodies, standing sitting or lying down. Poor posture can impact significantly on our overall health. Poor posture increases pressure on our spine, causing tension, soreness, headaches, backpain and fatigue. Ask your Chiropractor to do a posture test on your visit today for you.

A survey by ACA found that one in ten claim their pain hindered their ability to play with kids, impacts on intimate relationships and 1 in 20realised their persistent pain caused friction with their partner.
This month we are be asking our patients to get more mobile. Its important you stay on top of your mobility and monitor any changes in your strength, balance and flexibility. Try out these 4 exercises. Neck rotation: Sitting down, keep shoulders still against a chair turn your head all the way to left and then repeat on right. How far did you get? Was it comfortable? Trunk Side Bend: Stand with feet apart see how far you can run your hand down each side of your body. Was it even? Sit to Stand: Testing the ease at which you can rise from your chair with crossed arms across your chest. Did you find this easy? Single Leg Stand: Testing how well you balance on each leg by lifting a foot of the ground. Do not allow your legs to touch and see how long you can stand without moving.
We challenge you to take the test and let us know how you went. If you find you are struggling with any of the exercises don’t worry we are here to help you.
